MySQL 5.1 - Update Not Recommended

29 November 2008 | INGATE Team

MySQL 5.1 was recently released as GA (Generally Available). However, we currently advise against updating in production environments.

Known Issues

The current version of MySQL 5.1 has several known issues:

  • Stability problems with the new partitioning feature
  • Performance regressions with certain query types
  • Incompatibilities with some older applications
  • Known bugs in the replication subsystem

Our Recommendation

Stay with MySQL 5.0 for now, which has proven to be stable and reliable. Wait for the first bugfix releases of MySQL 5.1 before considering an update.

For Test Environments

If you would like to test MySQL 5.1, we recommend doing so in a separate test environment. This way, you can check the compatibility of your applications without jeopardizing the production environment.

For questions about MySQL version selection, we are happy to advise you at info@ingate.de.
