Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions about the INGATE HA Cloud.

What does geo-redundant multi-AZ architecture mean?
Multi-AZ (Multiple Availability Zones) means your infrastructure is distributed across at least two physically separated data centers — with a minimum distance of 30 km. Each Availability Zone is independent in power supply, cooling, and networking. In the event of a complete site failure, the second zone takes over automatically. This protects you not only against hardware failures but also against natural disasters, power outages, and site-specific risks.
In which regions are Availability Zones available?
Through our partnership with Equinix, we have access to over 260 data centers in 33 countries and 72 metros worldwide. For European multi-AZ setups, we use Equinix sites in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and other EU countries. For customers with North American requirements, sites in Canada are available — without falling under the US Cloud Act. All sites are equipped with individually configured Dell servers.
Why Equinix as a partner?
Equinix operates the world's largest network of carrier-neutral data centers — over 260 IBX data centers in 33 countries. This partnership gives INGATE access to first-class data center infrastructure at virtually every relevant location worldwide. Equinix data centers offer the highest Tier III/IV standards, direct connectivity to all major network providers, and the flexibility to build your multi-AZ architecture exactly where you need it.
What are RPO and RTO — and what values are achievable?
RPO (Recovery Point Objective) defines the maximum data loss in an emergency — how many minutes of data may be lost at most? RTO (Recovery Time Objective) defines the maximum recovery time — how long may it take until your systems are running again? With synchronous replication between Availability Zones, we achieve RPO values near zero. RTO depends on the architecture: for Active-Active setups in the seconds range, for Active-Standby typically under 15 minutes.
How does automatic failover work?
Our multi-AZ setups use automatic failover mechanisms that permanently monitor the state of all components. In the event of an Availability Zone failure, the system detects the error within seconds and automatically redirects traffic to the remaining zone. With Active-Active configurations, your end users typically don't even notice the failure. Regular DR tests ensure that failover works reliably in an emergency.
What hardware is deployed at the sites?
At each site, we deploy individually configured Dell servers. As a Dell partner, we can tailor servers precisely to the requirements of each workload and site — from CPU and RAM to storage and network interfaces. This ensures that the infrastructure performs identically across all Availability Zones.
For which industries is the HA Cloud designed?
The HA Cloud is designed for enterprises with the highest demands on availability and fault tolerance: critical infrastructure operators (energy, water, telecommunications), financial service providers and insurers with BaFin requirements, healthcare companies with patient data, SaaS providers who must guarantee high SLAs to their customers, and companies with regulatory requirements for geo-redundancy.
How is it ensured that the US Cloud Act does not apply?
INGATE is an owner-operated German company with no US involvement. For European multi-AZ setups, we exclusively use data centers in the EU. For North American sites, we rely on Canada — which does not fall under the US Cloud Act. At no point do US companies or authorities have access to your data. This is guaranteed both contractually and technically.
How does the planning of an HA Cloud solution work?
The process begins with a detailed consultation where we analyze your availability requirements, RPO/RTO targets, compliance needs, and site preferences. Our architects then design a customized multi-AZ architecture, select the optimal Equinix sites, and configure the Dell servers for each location. After setup and extensive DR tests, we deliver a documented, tested solution.
Which compliance certifications are met?
Our infrastructure is ISO 27001 certified. Equinix data centers additionally meet SOC 1/2, PCI-DSS, and other international standards. All European setups are fully GDPR-compliant. On request, we support BSI IT baseline protection, critical infrastructure certifications, and industry-specific compliance requirements.
What are egress costs?
Egress costs are fees that cloud providers charge for outgoing data traffic — i.e., for data leaving the data center toward the internet or other networks. Every API response, every download, every video stream, and every backup replication generates egress traffic. Most hyperscalers charge these costs per GB, which can quickly become a significant and hard-to-calculate cost factor. Especially with data-intensive applications, these fees add up rapidly.
Does INGATE charge egress costs?
No. At INGATE, outgoing data traffic is already included in the price — no per-GB fees, no hidden surcharges. This makes your costs fully predictable and transparent. Especially with data-intensive applications like CDN, streaming, large APIs, or backup replication, this results in a massive cost advantage over the major hyperscalers.
How high are egress costs at hyperscalers?
AWS charges approximately $0.09/GB (first 10 TB), Azure approximately $0.087/GB, and Google Cloud approximately $0.12/GB. A company transferring 10 TB per month pays approximately $900–1,200/month for outgoing traffic alone. At 100 TB, it is already $8,000–9,000+/month. These costs are difficult to predict as they depend on user behavior, API call volumes, and traffic patterns — complicating TCO calculations and frequently leading to unexpectedly high bills ("bill shock"). At INGATE, traffic is included, making total costs fully calculable from day one.
