Serverhousing
Optimal conditions for operating your servers in our private suite at the EMC Home of Data data center Munich.
What is Serverhousing?
Serverhousing means placing your own server hardware in a professional data center. You remain the owner of the equipment and keep full control over operating system, software and data. The data center provides the rack space, power, cooling, network connectivity and physical security.
Serverhousing or colocation?
The terms mean the same thing, whether you search for serverhousing, server housing or colocation. Colocation is the internationally common term, server housing is established in German-speaking countries. In everyday use, serverhousing tends to refer to individual rack units and colocation to half and full racks. At INGATE you get both from the same infrastructure.
Difference to a dedicated server
With a dedicated server you rent the hardware from the provider. With serverhousing you bring your own. This pays off when you have already invested, when special components such as GPUs or storage systems are in use, or when depreciation and accounting favor ownership.
What does serverhousing cost?
At INGATE serverhousing starts at 89 euros net per month for one rack unit, including 0.5 A of power consumption per RU. Additional power is billed per kWh, so you only pay for actual usage. Traffic is included without a volume limit.
Renting data center space
You rent exactly the space your hardware occupies, billed in rack units from one RU upwards. Operating your own data center only pays off at large scale, because redundant power, cooling and connectivity are baseline costs that do not scale down with size. With housing you share that baseline with every other customer in the building.
Your own server room or housing?
An in-house server room ties up floor space, air conditioning and a backup power supply in your own building. Add fire protection, access control and the question of who is reachable at night. Renting space in a data center instead delivers all of that ready-made while you keep your own hardware.
Who is it suitable for?
For companies that need hardware sovereignty and German legal certainty but do not want to run their own data center. Typical users are mid-sized businesses with ERP and database systems, agencies with client projects and providers that must demonstrate physical access to their systems for compliance reasons.
