Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions about managed servers.

Do I get root access with a Managed Server?
Shell access is generally possible. For administrative purposes, sudo permissions are sufficient in most cases and we set them up for you after consultation. We do not grant full root access in managed operation to ensure system integrity.
What do the AMD EPYC processor designations mean?
The AMD EPYC 9004 series uses a clear naming scheme: The first digit (9) stands for the product line, the second digit for the generation (0 = Genoa/4th Gen). The last digits indicate the relative performance class. An "F" suffix (e.g., EPYC 9474F) designates models with particularly high clock speeds — ideal for workloads requiring single-thread performance. A "P" suffix (e.g., EPYC 9654P) designates single-socket optimized models.
What are the advantages of a managed server over a root server?
A managed server requires significantly less maintenance compared to a root server. You get the same high-performance hardware, but without any administrative effort on your part. We handle regular system and security updates, continuous monitoring, and installation and configuration of standard software.
Which CPUs are available?
All Dell PowerEdge models are configurable with AMD EPYC 9004 processors — from 16 cores (EPYC 9124, 3.0 GHz) to 128 cores (EPYC 9754, 2.25 GHz). For maximum single-thread performance, F variants with up to 4.1 GHz are available.
What software is included in the managed service?
Installation and configuration of standard software is included. Optionally, control panels such as Plesk, LiveConfig or Froxlor are available, as well as backup solutions with up to 5 TB of storage.
Are hardware upgrades possible?
Yes, upgrades are always possible with us, even during the contract term. From additional RAM to more storage capacity to CPU upgrades.
How is the server managed remotely?
All Dell PowerEdge servers feature iDRAC9 — a dedicated lights-out management interface for full remote management. Combined with our managed service, you get a complete worry-free package without any administrative effort.
Which operating systems are supported?
All common distributions are available: Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, openSUSE, Gentoo, FreeBSD and Windows Server. Additionally, we can pre-install any operating system at no extra cost.
Is custom hardware configuration possible?
Yes, we can fundamentally configure any Dell system to your specifications. Our hardware consulting is included.
