Debian 5.0 aka Lenny

23 February 2009 | INGATE Team

Debian 5.0, codename Lenny, was officially released on February 14, 2009. The new stable release is now available as an installation image for INGATE root servers.

What's New in Debian Lenny

  • Kernel 2.6.26: Updated Linux kernel with improved hardware support
  • Ext4 support: Support for the new ext4 filesystem
  • OpenJDK: Free Java implementation included in Debian for the first time
  • Updated software stack: Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2, MySQL 5.0, PostgreSQL 8.3

Upgrading from Etch

An upgrade from Debian 4.0 (Etch) to Lenny is possible but requires careful planning. We recommend:

  1. Complete backup before the upgrade
  2. Test the upgrade in a test environment
  3. Bring all packages to the latest Etch version
  4. Switch sources.list to Lenny and perform the upgrade

Managed Server Customers

For managed server customers, we coordinate the upgrade individually. Contact us at info@ingate.de to schedule an upgrade appointment.
