Real Rack Servers?

20 May 2009 | INGATE Team

Time and again, we see providers putting desktop hardware into 19-inch chassis and selling them as rack servers. At INGATE, that does not happen.

The Difference

Real rack servers like the Dell PowerEdge series are designed from the ground up for continuous operation in a data center:

  • ECC RAM: Error Correcting Code memory automatically detects and corrects memory errors

  • Redundant Power Supplies: Hot-swappable power supplies for uninterrupted operation

  • IPMI/iDRAC: Remote management interface for remote maintenance and monitoring

  • Server Motherboard: Stable, durable, designed for 24x7 operation

  • Hot-Swap Hard Drives: Drive replacement without server downtime

Why This Matters

Desktop hardware may appear cheaper at first glance. But:

  • No redundant power supplies means: power supply failure = server down
  • No ECC RAM means: increased risk of data loss due to memory errors
  • No remote management card means: physical access to the server is required when problems occur

Our Standard

At INGATE, we exclusively use enterprise hardware from Dell. Every server is individually configured and thoroughly tested before delivery.
