Starting now, we offer new dedicated root servers with Intel Nehalem Xeon™ processors. The new processor generation delivers significantly more performance while simultaneously consuming less power.

What Is Nehalem?

Nehalem is Intel's processor microarchitecture that substantially improves upon its predecessor Core:

  • Integrated Memory Controller: Direct memory access without an external northbridge chip
  • Quick Path Interconnect (QPI): Faster communication between CPU and chipset
  • Hyper-Threading: Doubling of logical cores
  • Turbo Boost: Automatic clock speed adjustment on demand

Available Configurations

The new Nehalem servers are available in various configurations:

  • Intel Xeon™ E5520 (4 cores, 2.26 GHz)
  • Intel Xeon™ E5540 (4 cores, 2.53 GHz)
  • Up to 48 GB DDR3 ECC RAM
  • Various storage options (SATA, SAS)

Advantages Over Predecessor

Compared to the previous Core 2-based servers, the Nehalem servers offer:
