Suspension of gTLDs According to ICANN Requirements

24 March 2015 | INGATE Team

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has issued new guidelines for the verification of domain registrant data. Domains with incomplete or unverified registrant data may be suspended.

What Does This Mean?

Effective immediately, the registrant data (WHOIS data) of all generic top-level domains (gTLDs such as .com, .net, .org, .info, etc.) must be complete and accurate. Registrars are required to verify the data.

What Do You Need to Do?

  1. Check the WHOIS data of your domains for completeness
  2. Make sure the registered email address is valid and reachable
  3. Confirm any verification emails promptly

Consequences of Non-Compliance

If the registrant data is not verified within 15 days, the domain may be suspended. A suspended domain is no longer reachable on the internet.

Does This Also Affect .de Domains?

No, the ICANN guidelines only apply to generic top-level domains. German .de domains are subject to DENIC guidelines and are not affected by this change.
