Why Proxmox VE?

Proxmox Virtual Environment combines proven open-source technology into a complete virtualization platform. For many VMware environments it is a direct replacement, without a licensing model in the background.

Open Source

Proxmox VE is released under the free AGPLv3 license. The source code is open, so your platform does not depend on a single vendor's pricing decisions.

No VMware License Costs

No VMware or Broadcom per-core licenses, no subscription bundles, no minimum quantities. The package price covers hardware, Proxmox VE and platform operation.

KVM and Ceph

KVM is the hypervisor built directly into the Linux kernel. Ceph distributes storage across all three nodes and keeps every data block in three copies.

Live Migration

VMs move between nodes while running, for example during maintenance or a hardware replacement. Your applications keep running.

High Availability

If a node fails, the built-in HA manager automatically restarts the affected VMs on the remaining nodes. The packages are sized for N+1 operation.

Backup Integration

Proxmox Backup Server integrates directly: incremental, deduplicated backups and restores of individual VMs or files. Backup storage is optional and available at extra cost.

Packages & Pricing

Fixed monthly prices for a complete cluster: hardware, Proxmox VE, Ceph and operation. All packages run on current hardware with AMD EPYC 9004 series processors, DDR5 memory and NVMe SSDs.

Optional: Migrating from VMware in 4 Steps

VMware migration is an optional service, billed by effort. Predictable, step by step and personally guided: your technician takes you from analysis to ongoing operation.

01

Analysis

We assess your VMware environment: VMs, resource needs, networks and dependencies. This determines the right package size and the migration plan.

02

Test Migration

Selected VMs are moved to your new cluster first. You verify function and performance before the actual move begins.

03

Migration

VMs are imported directly from ESXi or vCenter and switched to VirtIO drivers. Cutover follows an agreed schedule, one by one or in groups.

04

Operation

INGATE takes over platform operation, updates and monitoring. Your technician remains your fixed contact, even as the cluster grows.

Munich Data Center

INGATE uses the EMC Home of Data center in Munich. This is where your cluster's servers are located, and your data never leaves Germany. INGATE is an owner-managed German GmbH with no US affiliation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Managed Proxmox

Answers on pricing, services and switching from VMware.

How much does the Managed Proxmox Private Cloud cost?
Packages start at €1,199 per month (net) on a 36-month term for a dedicated 3-node cluster (package S). Package M costs €1,569, package L €3,279 per month. Terms of 6, 12, 24 or 36 months are available, shorter terms cost more: on 6 months, for example, €1,498.75 for package S. There are no VMware license costs and no egress costs. Backup storage and a VMware migration are optional and billed separately. Larger or different clusters are quoted individually.
Which contract terms are available and what do shorter terms cost?
You can choose 6, 12, 24 or 36 months. The package prices shown apply to a 36-month term. Shorter terms cost more: 24 months 6.25%, 12 months 12.5% and 6 months 25% more than 36 months. For package S, that is €1,199.00 (36 months), €1,273.94 (24 months), €1,348.88 (12 months) and €1,498.75 (6 months) per month. There is also a one-time setup fee: two monthly fees for 6 months, one for 12 months, half a monthly fee for 24 months, and none for 36 months.
What is included in the package?
Three dedicated Dell servers with Proxmox VE and Ceph, platform operation and updates, 24/7 monitoring, hardware replacement in case of defects, a personal technician as your fixed point of contact, and operation in our Munich data center. Backup storage is optional, at extra cost. VMware migration is optional and billed by effort.
What is the difference between Proxmox VE and VMware vSphere?
Proxmox VE is open source and uses KVM for virtual machines, LXC for containers and Ceph as distributed storage. VMware vSphere is proprietary and, since the Broadcom acquisition, only available as a subscription with per-core minimums. Proxmox VE covers the core features as well: high availability, live migration, snapshots and integrated backup.
Can we take over our VMware VMs?
Yes. Proxmox VE imports virtual machines directly from ESXi and vCenter, both Windows and Linux guests. On request, we handle the migration as an optional service billed by effort: we analyze your environment, migrate selected VMs as a test and plan the move with you. More on our VMware alternative page.
How does a migration from VMware work and what does it cost?
The migration is an optional service billed by effort. It follows four steps: analysis of your VMware environment, test migration of selected VMs, the move according to an agreed schedule, and handover into ongoing operation. We quote the price after the analysis.
How high is the availability?
Every package is designed for N+1: if one of the three nodes fails, the affected VMs restart automatically on the remaining nodes, and data stays available through Ceph. Contractually, an SLA of up to 99.99% can be selected.
How does high availability work in the 3-node cluster?
The cluster is sized for N+1: the VM load still fits on the cluster if one node fails. Ceph keeps every data block in three copies, distributed across the three nodes. For maintenance, VMs are moved via live migration while running. If a node fails unexpectedly, the HA manager automatically restarts the affected VMs on the remaining nodes.
Who replaces defective hardware and how fast?
Hardware replacement in case of defects is included in the package, INGATE handles it in the data center. How fast we respond depends on the selected SLA tier: Basic (99.5%) next business day, Bronze (99.8%) within 8 hours, Silver (99.9%) within 4 hours, Gold (99.95%) within 2 hours and Platinum (99.99%) within 60 minutes. From Bronze upwards, emergency support is available 24/7.
How is data backed up?
Proxmox Backup Server integrates directly and backs up VMs incrementally and deduplicated; individual VMs or files can be restored selectively. Backup storage is optional and available at extra cost, you choose the size in the configurator.
Which network connectivity and how many VLANs are possible?
Every node has 4× 10 GE, and the 10 GE uplink is included in the package. 25 GE, 40 GE or 100 GE are available at extra cost. Uplink and VLANs are priced per node and grow with additional nodes; the matching network cards are included. Private networks between your servers are booked as VLANs, you choose the number in the configurator.
Where are the servers located?
Your servers are located in the EMC Home of Data in Munich, a data center used by INGATE. It is certified to ISO 27001, ISO 50001 and DIN EN 50600. Your data stays in Germany.
Is INGATE certified?
Yes. INGATE is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified by British Assessment Bureau, a UKAS-accredited certification body. INGATE is also certified to ISO/IEC 27017:2015 for information security in cloud services. The ISMS covers all INGATE products and services. Certificate numbers and verification are on our About page.
Is there a data processing agreement (DPA) under the GDPR?
Yes. Every quote comes with our data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR and the technical and organisational measures under Art. 32 GDPR as annexes, also available in English. Both become part of the contract with the order. We do not use subcontractors to process your data; operations are carried out exclusively by INGATE in the EMC Home of Data data center in Munich, which we use.
Can I expand the cluster later?
Yes. Additional nodes, more memory or extra storage can be added during operation. GPU servers can also join the cluster. We plan the expansion together with you.
Are there VMware license costs?
No. Proxmox VE is open source, so VMware and Broadcom licenses are no longer needed. Licenses for guest operating systems and applications in your VMs, such as Windows Server, are separate.
